The Reverend Jonathan N. Clodfelter is the ninth rector of St. Mark's Church, Frankford and has served God in that capacity for nine years.
Nineteen years ago, while a child was being baptized, Jon had at dramatic conversion experience. At that time Jesus came and spoke to him, saying "peace be with you." Jon has always taken that to mean that no matter what happens in his life, or the life of others, Jesus will always be present guiding us in peace. It was a powerful revelation and there are times, when Jon feels his ministry is simply to baptize and share that testimony, but it is through that conversion that he has found his voice as a preacher and minister in the Church of God.
Jon, as he prefers to be called was born and raised in Missouri near the Ozark Mountains where he enjoyed camping, canoeing, hunting, and fishing as a boy. He came to Philadelphia, by way of a career in the US Army, where he served as an intelligence analyst at various command levels all over the world and service as chaplain in a children's home in North Carolina.
Jon graduated from the University of the State of New York, Virginia Theological Seminary, and has recently completed a second Master's Degree at the Villanova University's School of Business in Church Management.
He is a family man, dedicated to his wife of 25 years, his four children, and grandchild.
Jon's ministry focus is on keeping the church relevant to our community. He believes that he is leading the St. Mark's Church, Frankford members to find ways to appropriately live in this rapidly changing 21st Century.
He serves on the Diocesan Mission Planning Commission and the Congregational Development sub-committee, Diocesan Council, the Northeast Committee on Homelessness, and the Temple University Institutional Review Board. |
